Overview

Following their father’s death, three Puerto Rican orphan brothers Victor, Jose and Felipe graduate from their local Catholic school and discover a newfound freedom. The brothers attract the attention of a mysterious elderly Irish woman, Miss Malloy, who offers them work to restore her crumbling Victorian mansion in Upstate New York so she can host one last party before she dies.

Before her ground-breaking masterpiece Losing Ground, director Kathleen Collins first teamed up with novelist Henry Roth to adapt his short stories into this utterly charming debut feature that plays out as both an amusing wry comedy about brotherhood and community, and a haunting look at loss and loneliness.
