Overview
See how the years have affected advertising with this short cinema advert from the 1950s promoting the Edinburgh Film Festival. No exploding buildings, witty taglines or snappy money saving deals here, just simple, rolling text on a black screen saying it like it is. Basically, come to Edinburghβs famous Cameo theatre and have a great time with a variety of mixed genre and International films! You will not regret itβ¦
The Cameo cinema is one of the oldest operating cinemas in Scotland. It opened on 8th January 1914 as the Kingβs Cinema. It became the Cameo in 1949 when it was bought by Jim Poole, and since this time it has remained an independent cinema with a lasting tradition of showing art-house films. This tradition was largely influenced by Poole, who had a rooted interest in foreign cinema. The Cameo has become a well know venue on the Edinburgh Film Festival circuit. It currently has three screens and was awarded Category B listed status by Historic Scotland in 2006, protecting its intricately corniced interior from future tampering.
